COURSE DESCRIPTION

      

COMM 121 – Multimedia and Hypermedia is a one-semester course designed to acquaint students with the basics of web page building and design.  Exploration and evaluation of exemplary sites will be explored.  Students will learn to make appropriate decisions about content and artistic presentation.  Communication skills will be developed as students work with peers and staff members building customized web sites.  HTML and a Macromedia’s Dreamweaver web-authoring tools will be utilized. 

 

COURSE DATA

Units of Credit Per Semester: 3
Class meets Mondays 4:30 to 7 PM.  Additional lab time will be required.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

  • Academic Achievement: Students will demonstrate an understanding of Internet web site design and use of Internet tools.
  • Effective Communication: Students will demonstrate an understanding of communicating with peers, faculty members and others via the Internet.
  • Critical Thinking: Students will learn to make appropriate decisions about the content and modes of presentation of information on the Internet.
  • Art appreciation: Students will design Internet web presentations that are artistically appealing.
  • Technological application: Students will use a variety of appropriate Internet tools to generate web page content.

MEANS OF ACHIEVING COUSE OBJECTIVES

  • Computer Lab Work: Dreamweaver Studio MX authoring tools to create and edit web content.
  • Web Content Creation: Learning elements of style and presentation, creating web presentations.  Working with staff and students to translate communication needs into working web content.
  • Web Team Discussions: Working as a team member to decide on web content and styles of presentation.

EVALUATION

Tests, quizzes, oral presentations, and participation in discussion.  Also evaluations of students’ web assignments, and peer evaluations.

 

REGARDING ABSENCES

If you are going to be absent call me and let me know ahead of time.  If you miss two classes you will be dropped one letter grade for each two classes missed.  You are required to make up any homework due and if possible, turn it in on time.  Failure to do this, without calling to make arrangements, will result in penalties with your grades.  If you have any questions, please call me for more information.

* Student athletes, please submit schedule of out of town games that will require missed classes.
