The Sustain Adult Education Summit is a collaboration between California Adult Schools, policy makers, school districts, and
the families of the communites they serve. The hope is that a grassroots movement may spread from community to
community throughout the state.
Many people do not realize the impact that loss of adult schools in California is having and will continue to have
on all of us. Legislative funding cuts at the State and Federal levels threaten the existence of adult education.
Data confirms that this short-sighted thinking will, in turn, ultimately cost taxpayers dearly in the form
of increased recidivism, higher high school drop-out rates, higher crime rates, higher rates of unemployment, an unskilled
workforce and an impact on quality of life for families.
The Summit is an opportunity to create pro-active strategies to sustain adult education at a community level.
